Derrick Hyde (Co-founder)
Derrick qualified as an actuary after completing his degree (BSc Honours Actuarial Science) at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Prior to co-founding Jaltech, Derrick was head of business development at Liberty Africa, where he focused on product development and acquisitions in Africa.
Derrick heads up the fund administration division of Jaltech, where he oversees the various teams involved. Jaltech leverages extensively off Derrick’s commercial and structuring expertise, allowing it to offer bespoke structures, products and fund solutions to clients.
Interesting fact: Derrick was one of the last South African actuaries to be accepted as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK).
Gaurav Nair (Co-founder)
Gaurav qualified as an actuary after completing his degree (BSc Honours Actuarial Science) at the University of the Witwatersrand. Prior to co-founding Jaltech, Gaurav worked as an actuary in reinsurance and life insurance, performing technical (risk assessment, pricing, asset liability matching and valuations), distribution and strategic roles.
Gaurav has extensive experience in financial services, which includes: asset management, domestic and international corporate and project finance, capital structuring and raising, hedging various financial risks and managing investments. He has brought valuable insight to Jaltech and has been crucial in allowing Jaltech to provide a customer centric service offering.
Interesting fact: Gaurav was one of the youngest actuarial students at University of the Witwatersrand having commenced his actuarial degree at the age of 16.
Jonty is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa, having previously practiced as an attorney at ENSAfrica (Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs Inc), Africa’s largest law firm. He has represented some of the world’s largest multinationals in countries such as Angola, Guinea, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland and Zambia.
Jonty is responsible for driving Jaltech’s growth and focuses on identifying new business opportunities, raising capital for Jaltech’s asset management division and developing relationships with potential partners.
Interesting fact: Jonty has written thought leadership pieces for almost every major online and print publication in South Africa.
Evaghn Naicker (Head of Fund Administration)
Evaghn completed his BSc degree at the University of the Witwatersrand, majoring in actuarial Science and statistics. After his studies, Evaghn began employment in management consulting, where he spent 5 years at Africa International Advisers, eventually becoming a manager at the firm. During his time there, Evaghn specialised in financial modelling, process design and engineering, operations management and strategic planning.
Over the years, Evaghn has evolved with Jaltech, in various capacities with roles in technical advisory, management and oversight. For the past few years, Evaghn has been responsible for the fund administration operations at Jaltech, where he oversees Jaltech’s administration clients.
Interesting fact: Evaghn was the first team member to join Jaltech and has been a cornerstone of the business ever since.
Mangaliso Mithi (Head of Finance)
Mangaliso is a CIMA qualified Chartered Global Management Accountant (ACMA, CGMA) and serves as the Head of Finance at Jaltech.
Before Jaltech, Mangaliso was the Manager of Finance and Special Projects at The CharterQuest Institute where he successfully headed up the company’s internal financial functions.
Mangaliso plays an integral role at Jaltech as he oversees the group’s finances and leads the finance team who fulfil a key financial function across the spectrum of administration services offering by Jaltech.
Interesting fact: Mangaliso was the coach of the South Africa national champions of the CIMA Global Business Challenge in 2015 and represented South Africa in Poland.
Rory Sim (Chief Risk Officer)
Rory is a qualified Certified Financial Planner (CFP), has passed CFA 1 and is pursuing a PHD in Business turnaround.
Prior to Jaltech, Rory was head of asset management at iCapital, where he established their asset management division which involved the formation of an equity unit trust and hedge fund offering.
Most of Rory’s time is focused at heading up compliance and system design and implementation. As part of Rory’s role, he oversees investor relations and the governance of all FAIS related matters. Jaltech leverages extensively off Rory’s compliance and system architectural expertise which has led to Jaltech being able to offer highly governable financial products and efficient systems to its clients/investors.
Interesting fact: Rory has advised the FSCA on how compliance should be adhered to within the Section 12J environment.
